Many employers who have laid off or terminated workers during the recession have worried about the legal troubles that may result, such as wage/hour lawsuits or discrimination complaints. There’s a much more common risk at stake: exploding unemployment insurance (UI) tax rates and claims.
These pressures have only gotten worse in 2010, as more states have recently raised (or now plan to raise) the UI tax rates employers pay, so that they can continue paying benefits to record numbers of out-of-work citizens. And, many HR directors are scrambling to deal with the mountains of paperwork those claims are generating – including appeals to fight undeserved claims.
Don’t give up. Join us for this practical 90-minute webinar, as our expert speaker explains how to navigate your state’s unemployment system, track and benchmark your tax rates, and contest suspicious claims before they’re approved.
Learning Objectives:- Why it’s critical in today’s economy to track and control your UI tax expenses, as more states raise their rates
- How to audit your UI tax bills and payments for errors – and how to benchmark what you’re paying against other employers in your state
- The hidden pitfalls you must anticipate and avoid in UI tax filings (for example, why your approved UI claims for ex-employees might actually increase your tax bill more than the actual benefits charged to your account)
- How to track potential unemployment claims and review the facts to determine which ex-workers are most likely to file troublesome claims
- The most common reasons employers succeed in contesting unemployment claims
- What you can do ahead of time to learn the procedures - and the loopholes - in your state’s unemployment claims procedures
- The actions you should take immediately when an employee is terminated or laid to prepare for a possible unemployment claim
- How to deal with unemployment compensation questionnaires and forms that arrive after your ex-worker has signed up for benefits
- What happens, step by step, if you decide to contest a claim - from filing the correct papers with state unemployment adjusters to pressing your case in a hearing with your ex-employee

| About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts: |
Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.
The live versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form a training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back at work immediately after the session ends!
And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous times and to share it with others in your office.
Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions. |
