Managers and HR people spend 90% of their day telling employees things they don't want to hear. Yes, you have to work overtime, no, you can't have that day off, no, your insurance won't pay for that, no, you don't get the promotion, no, its not a good idea, and yes, I realize last year bonuses and increases were bigger.

A manager or HR manager's biggest challenge has always been to get people to remain productive while not being able to give employees everything they desire. In today's cost cutting economy, those challenging conversations are being increasingly frequent, taking up the majority of a decision maker's workday.

Learning objectives:

This audio conference will give you techniques, tips and ways to tell employees the things they don't want to hear without damaging and/or de-motivating working relationships for the long term.
  • How to tell people negative news in a way that they will continuing
    working that day (week, month, year, career).
  • How management's casual conversations are really "training".
  • How to redirect an employee who is "mad" and acting out in the work place because they've been the recipient of negative or unexpected news - without making the situation worse.
  • Having bad news conversations with employees that are already "on the edge" because of workplace or economic stressors.
  • Plan quickly for negative conversations - an on the fly easy process.
  • How to enforce a policy, practice or decision that you don't
    personally agree with either.
About Your Speaker

Teri Morning, SPHR, has over 15 years organizational development and teaching experience in a variety of professional fields for both both profit and non-profit companies.

In addition to a MBA, Teri also has a Master’s degree in Human
Resource Development with a specialization in Conflict Management, is certified in mediation skills, is qualified as a Myers-Briggs practitioner, and holds the SHRM certification of a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
