Dreaded year-end is approaching; the busiest time for the Payroll Department. Now is the time to start planning and getting yourself organized so that the entire process will be smooth and stress free.
During this session we will discuss the year end process from start to finish. What reconciliations can you do prior to year end, what information should you start gathering, and what are the common items forgotten prior to W-2 issuance are a few of the items that will be addressed during this discussion. Best practices for a smooth year end process will be discussed and tools to assist will be covered.
Learning Objectives:- We will discuss best practices in year end payroll processing and the use of a checklist to determine that all processes have been performed.
- We will address items that can be conducted or performed prior to year end to better manage your time once W-2 processing has started.
- Typical year end questions from employees faced by the payroll department will be discussed and how to head these off at the pass will be addressed in order to save time for your staff and yourself.
By the end of the session, you should have enough information to prepare a year end checklist to insure that your process is complete and also as painless as possible.
About Your Speaker
Mindy Harada, CPP, is an employment tax specialist who has over 17 years of employment tax experience as an independent consultant, an employee with one of the Big 4 firms, and as a payroll tax auditor. Ms. Harada previously was the west coast practice leader for the Employment Tax Practice at Deloitte Tax LLP.
Ms. Harada is a frequent presenter on various employment tax topics at APA events and for several payroll service providers on a national basis. She has presented before the Society of CPAs and has also spoken at several Payroll Conferences throughout the country.
