Legislators and regulators in New York have made the state a minefield for employers—there's a fresh batch of new workplace laws and rules from Albany on everything from wage and hour standards and layoff restrictions to background checks, paycheck deductions, and nursing moms on the job.
Making matters worse, New York lawmakers are hard at work already on the next round of bad news, ranging from a workplace bullying bill that just passed the State Senate to mandatory paid sick leave rules being considered by the New York City Council!
If you're based in the Empire State (or, if you have operations there), don't miss this practical 90-minute webinar on Aug. 12. Our expert speakers—two very experienced New York-licensed attorneys—will review the most critical legal challenges facing employers there right now, and offer practical approaches to compliance in each case.
You'll learn:
- How to comply with the Labor Law 195 changes that require written pay rate/payday notices for employees (exempt and non-exempt)
- The latest legal protections granted to New York employees who are victims of domestic violence or who are nursing moms
- How the expanded New York State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (NY WARN) will affect your future reductions in force
- What steps you must follow now when you conduct background and criminal checks on applicants, use employees' Social Security numbers and other personal data
- New rules for deducting funds from workers' wages to collect money they owe you (hint: you can't, even with written consent!)
- The practical effect of recent New York court cases on employment law issues such as employer liability for discriminatory acts or harassment by employees and the state's longtime "faithless servant" doctrine
- How to handle the newest state guidelines affecting specific types of employees, such as nurses, hotel/restaurant workers, and domestic help
- The latest predictions on pending New York employment legislation—from workplace bullying and employees' access to their personnel files to expanded whistle blower protections and mandatory paid sick leave for private employers in New York City

| About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts: |
Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.
The live versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form a training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back at work immediately after the session ends!
And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous times and to share it with others in your office.
Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions. |
