| Description: |
Several years back, the United Nations adopted the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) - a system designed to standardize hazard definitions, safety data sheets, classification of materials, and labeling. Now, OSHA is in the process of adopting these requirements for American workplaces.
The standardization will ultimately be good news for all concerned, facilitating improvements to both efficiency and worker safety. However, in the short term, the implementation of the GHS will require changes in all American workplace hazcom and other safety programs - including new labels and MSDSs. Things will get a little hairy for you if you don’t fully understand all the big changes looming on the horizon.
You’ll learn:- What the GHS is, and why your understanding of it is crucial
- How the proposed OSHA rule could affect your workplace
- The changes that would be required in classification, labeling, and employee training
- How the hazcom standard may be modified to align with the GHS
- What types of comments OSHA has received on the proposal
- Practical tips for compliance that you can implement right away
